I caught the queen today. She's about I think 8mm-9mm long. I'm also caring for another Aphaenogaster colony, so I brood boosted her with 2 pupae and 1 large larva. One of the pupae is pretty dark at the moment, and if the queen ends up accepting it, it'll probably eclose in less than a week. The other pupa already has eyes. I'll try to get pictures soon, but the test tube is a bit blurry.

She seems to have refused the brood boost, but has already laid one egg of her own!

Turns out the queen seems to have been somewhat paying attention. She moved the darker pupa and the larva together. I just found out that the larva actually pupated today.

apheanogaster are sooo rare here in seco-estepario climate in Mexico.

 

i only found some in a mountain that was about 1900m tall!

The queen died a while back, but I found this two queen colony 3 weeks ago.

 

I think they have maybe 20 workers
