I know I need to include photos but I have the worst phone camera. Earlier this year, I captured two queens in Eastern Kansas and Central Iowa that were misidentified as C. subbarbatus. They do not have striped abdomens, but they are a similar size.

They have a red/brown coloration similar to C. floridanus while having a size closer to C. nearcticus. There are only about 60 Camponotus species in the US, so what are the logical options given those rough descriptions?

Update: It could be C. nearcticus. Some research shows that this species can appear as both solid black or bicolored? Otherwise what I have fits the nearcticus traits.

My only best photo:

Bad pics are better than no pics.

An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to their relative body size

We need more pics, a top profile would be nice. Also more focused if possible.

I did some in-person observations & discussion with a fellow ants keeper and we agreed it's very likely the bicolored C. nearcticus
