I am planning to create a formicarium for myrmecocystus species 2 feet long, 1 foot wide, 3 inches thick.. I do need help figuring out which grout to use (sanded vs unsanded.) I have read that sanded is more coarse, difficult to retain moisture, and harder to work with when carving or drilling. As a matter of fact, I did use a titanium drill bit on an unsanded block of grout and it was very difficult to make serious dents into it. Do all of the cons I mentioned above hold true? On the other hand, unsanded is susceptible to shrinkage and cracking. If I were to use a forstner bit to carve into the grout formicarium, wouldn't unsanded be more ideal to work with in order to resist cracking?
Is it better to drill while it is semi-dry or fully dry?
I need your help. Thank you.
