Hello.
So, i just collected a medium sizes Lasius
flavus colony while i was on a camping trip.
The colony is about 800-1000w probably. They where nesting inside a wine bottle filled whit soil...The soil was completely full of roots which make sense because l.flavus mainly feeds on root aphids.
My question is considering their feeding habits in nature can they be kept on regular food like honey or sugar water like any other ant? Because i transferred the colony whit the soil in a naturalistic set up but i doubt the roots will survive. And the alphids will slowly die off.
Thanks a lot!
