At first, I thought it was a Formica Male alate but the head is about twice the size of the ones I've seen this summer. 

Sorry for the poor quality I was in a hurry and just snapped a quick pic. 

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Boston, MA
2. Date of collection: 8-13-18
3. Habitat of collection: a bucket of water/driveway
4. Length (from head to gaster): about 10mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: black

After doing a little research I think it might be a Lasius male alate. It died during the day.

This is definitely a wasp.
