I caught this single Dorymyrmex insanus queen in my pool on the same day that I caught 6 Crematogaster sp.1, and a Nylanderia cf. vividula out of the water as well. This queen seemed infertile at first, not even having eggs half the time since I caught her, then things happened fast. In less than a month, the first workers arrived, and through all this, she never shed her wings! It just shows sometimes they do not need to shed their wings to be fertile.

This colony had a major die off just like the Crematogaster, but they are doing good again.

Nothing really to update. This colony has not gotten even one new worker since. This colony finally has a decent amount of brood, so they may get more workers soon.

Just a minor update- this colony has gotten their first worker in a long time. They also have a few more pupae about to eclose too.

This colony is finally showing signs of growth and they are not losing workers as fast as they are being produced.

Mine seemed to be a dud at first, actually she is a dud, and may have died, but she left one uneaten pupa to eclose, and now the workers keep her from doing stupid things!

This colony had a small boom in population. I do not know why, but even a common species like this is fun to watch.

I got your messages of elation regarding Dorymyrmex consuming Blue 100 after having difficulty with it for a while.

How has your colony been doing lately? I got a small colony from Drew around Christmas and moved them into a Talus. They appear to be doing well, but seem to stay in the nest the majority of the time. I rarely see more than 2 workers out foraging.

That's the way most smaller colonies behave. It's also winter time right now, and in the wild most Dorymyrmex nests are closed up.

Actually, Dorymyrmex is the most active around here. The colony is fine, lost a few more workers though. New eggs have been seen though.

I think your "E" key is not working. Everywhere I go out looking, I don't see many Dorymyrmex nests at all, and then right around March they start popping up everywhere.

Among the eggs in their brood pile, I am noticing small larvae in the brood piles of the new queens I caught in February. Their brood development seems to be taking forever.

At least I know they are fertile now.
