Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out if I need to put grout in some of my acrylic nests or not. I know that Camponotus pennsylvanicus produces formic acid and will need a substrate, but do any others? I've only come across and have Tetramorium, Lasius, and Prenolepis imparis.

I would just throw grout in these new nest, but they are vertical and would be tricky to do so. So if I don't have to add grout, I won't.

Thanks

I keep a 30-40 worker colony of Camponotus Pennsylvanicus in an Omni nest without any issues.

Those in the subfamily Formicinae produce formic acid.

Ah alright, so Lasius and Prenolepis does then.
