1. Location of collection: Ottawa, Ontaro, Canada.
2. Date of collection: 26 July 2018
3. Habitat of collection: City Sidewalk, next to large open area (high school parking lot)
4. Length: Queen: 9mm
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Black as far as I tell.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Grayish band on gaster.

You should try getting a macro lens (cheap one from Walmart $11) and try shining an LED light on the queen to improve your lighting situation.

Not sure what you mean by "macro lens". One of those 'clip on' lenses that you attach to phones? (I have one somewhere. I'll have to dig it up.)

I have tried LED flashlights for some of these shots. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't. Sunlight is definitely the best.
