Interesting lit review. Pretty significant finding as well considering that it was published in Science. I'll read the publication tomorrow as the mechanisms were not covered very deeply in the review.
Also...
"There are 14,000 species of ants, all of which are believed to share the same mechanism of differentiation between queens and workers."
This is not completely accurate as there are species of ants which utilize gamergates.
