I have some Technomyrmex difficilis (I’m 99% sure) and a beautiful red carpenter ant (I’m not sure of her exact species). I also have a Solenopsis Invicta Queen with a huge clump of eggs. Let me know if you’re interested.

It is illegal to sell Solenopsis Invicta, as they are a highly invasive and destructive species. They grow at extremely great rates, and they WILL escape eventually. You should probably get rid of them by giving them a quick stomp, freezing, or boiling them. I know that this sounds cruel, but you have to be willing to do this if you keep Solenopsis Invicta. And like Kevin said, please post your area on your profile settings. Please do not sell ants if you do not know their species, get them identified in the ID thread.

It is illegal to sell Solenopsis Invicta, as they are a highly invasive and destructive species...

Though strongly discouraged within the antkeeping hobbyist community, the environmental and biological impact of individual hobbyists capturing and rearing a species like S. invicta in an area which is already infested is likely to be zero.  There is only a problem when the ants are introduced to new areas.

Further, while there are prohibitions on transporting plant pest species across state lines or other political boundaries, there is no law prohibiting the "sale" of any ant within the United States, unless that ant species is protected by some other law, such as the Endangered Species Act.

I didn't know that it was legal. Thanks you for telling me. Is Georgia already highly infested by RIFA?

Quarantine Map:

The further you go to the boundaries of the quarantine, the fewer S. invicta one will find. In Georgia, they are plentiful in every county, especially favoring disturbed and agricultural areas in the central and southern parts of the state.

Obviously if this seller were in California or New Mexico, or another state where S. invicta hasn't completely taken over, some constructive criticism may be fair.  Because eradication efforts have largely been successful in stymieing their proliferation, noone should be selling these ants in those states, even if a small number of organisms are technically present.

I just wanted to add, even if you live in a quarantined zone, you may not transport them over quarantined zones to get your county.  Also, I have seen people get contacted and visited by USDA officers just publicly posting about them.  Although not a law, it appears they may be getting a bit stricter with them.

Like Terry said, they are not illegal to sell. What is you are stating is the often repeated RIFA (red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta) hyperbole we see here on the forum. I wish everyone would stop proliferating these myths but keep the conversation less sensationalized and more level headed.

What you cannot do is transport or ship reproductive ants across state lines - regardless if they are S. invicta or any species of ants.

There is also a RIFA quarantine zone. One obviously cannot transport them outside of this zone. Have lived extensively in SC, GA, and TX - all invicta infested States that contain both non quarantine and quarantined zones. This was over 15 years ago, and even back then these things were found well outside of those zones. Of course we should be vigilant whenever it comes to invasive species, but they are so laughably invaded in these States I'm not sure it is an issue.
