July 26

Around 3 to 5 PM. Warm but not hot. Not so humid.

Found another Trachymyrmex septentrionalis queen. At this point, I'm wondering if they already regurgitated the fungus and were just foraging.

Which means they would not be successful in captivity.

It hasn't rained over here in a while.

June 27

Didn't found anything.

June 28

Late at night before noon. Not too hot, not too humid. No flight observed.

Found Solenopsis sp. moving pupae of alates so their flight is not over yet.

Aug 1
Rained again during the morning.
A lot of flights right before the sunset.
Air is cool and it is quite humid.

Dorymyrmex bureni flew

Same Pheidole sp. (around 4~5 mm) from July 13 flew as well.

Other species flew as well.

Since March 20 I was able to catch Camponotus pennsylvanicus as well as some smaller Camponotus species. Temperatures were not too hot (below 80 F) and not too cold above (50 F).

Yeah lots of Camponotus flights these past few days. C. Americanus, C. pennsylvanicus, C. subbarbatus, and C. caryae are the queens I've caught.

I've been trying to catch those species! When and where did you catch them? I am also in Birmingham area.

I caught them in the Hoover Riverchase area. If you end up not catching any I have them for sale and many other colonies.

Did you catch them this year? I will definitely consider it.

I caught them 2-3 weeks ago and most of them have a nice brood pile going

I see, hopefully they will fly again soon. It's nice to see another ant keeper in Birmingham!

How is your anting season going?

I was able to capture some Camponotus chromaiodes and another smaller Camponotus sp. but I haven't been able to catch any newly mated queen since 2~3 weeks ago. I'm guessing it's because of the cooler weather.

Hope you are having a better luck!
