So I made this thread so people could post about when nuptial flights should be, questions, and sometime we could even arrange an anting expedition in New York. Also we could find out how many New York anters there are. Post about basically anything related to anting in New York.

The only anters I know of in ny besides you and me are Reevak, Cnewton, ender210, disasterants, creeperuniverse (very inactive). Oh and Skwiggledork, add your location to your profile, like your city and state, it makes it easier for everyone

Found a Myrmica queen yesterday.
If we were to arrange an New York anting expedition, would anyone be interested? I'm thinking for next year...

Depending on how far away from me it was, I'd be down.

That's the thing. I know that we have quite a few members down in NYC, Queens, and Brooklyn. Not to many in upstate. We would have to do something like in the center of the state or something. I just go anting right next to my apartment and find a ton of queens. But to do something like this we would need a state park. I probably can't arrange this my self for next year.

Did anyone have any luck yesterday? It was in the high 70's and it had 76% humidity.

I just found a winged C. Pennsylvanicus queen wandering around. Probably ejected, seems late for Camponotus.

She's most likely infertile. Give her a test tube, maybe a honey boost.

Has anyone found any Lasius, Crematogaster, Brachymyrmex, or Solenopsis this year? When?

Last year, all of these flew in September. It was so dry that when it finally did rain, everything was out. The Crematogaster flew around noon, the rest in the evening. Hopefully with this years rain they will fly a bit earlier. You probably still have 3-4 weeks though.

It is raining as I type. Tomorrow should be in the high 80s so I'll go blacklighting

I went blacklighting yesterday from 8:30- 10:20, caught four Lasius sp. queens. Three yellow, 1 black.

Also, I'm seriously considering a NY ant together. I don't want to make something like that though without knowing if people are interested. Neighboring states such as NJ or PA are welcome too. Seeing how only a couple other people have replied to this thread I don't want to plan something and only get 2-3 people.

The only problem with bringing out of staters anting, is they can't take any home with them.
