Sorry I'm new here was wondering if anyone could help me id 2 queen ants i have caught i caught one a week ago and the red one literally 5 mins ago she had her wings i came back 5 min later too check on her and she had tore off her wings which was exciting. How do i post pics? Haha

Guess i should read the rules first lol
1. Location of collection: Both Tennessee
2. Date of collection: Red June 29th, Black June 21st
3. Habitat of collection: Both Backyard
4. Length (from head to gaster): Red (7cm) Black(8cm)
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: One is more of a light and darkish red and the other is black
6. Distinguishing characteristics:
7. Distinguishing behavior: Both have stayed away from the water side of the test tube so far.
8. Nest description: Currently have both of them in their own test tube setup.
9. Nuptial flight time and date:

You’ll need to make an account on imgur. Once you’ve done that, just upload the images to imgur and copy the link onto here. No extra step step needed. Simple!

No, you did not.  There is a guide on the home page where you can read on how to properly post images.  Look at the top right corner for Important Topics and you will find it there.

It would still be better if you actually uploaded the single images to this forum where you can have the images display without people having to click a link.

 

Anyways, the first queen appears to be an Aphaenogaster tennesseensis queen to me and the second appears to be of the Crematogaster genus.  

 

Also, these queens are not 7cm or 8cm, that is a bit too large, haha.

that's what i thought they both were and i might of been off i thought i measured correctly but I'm prob wrong but thanks haha glad too know i was on the roght track!

The propodeal spines are much too small to be A. tennesseensis, which are much shinier and no larger than 6mm.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.
