6. Distinguishing characteristics: deformed gaster?
 

 

Hi All, I'm still learning the different ants that are in my yard and this one looked completely different from the camponotus and Tetramorium ones I've been watching. 

 

The gaster looks almost deformed like it has an indent to it or it was crushed. the distance between the gaster and thorax is wider than the ones I've been seeing.

Looks like a Tetramorium queen!  Can't tell from the pic, but gaster looks like it may have sustained some damage.

Found another one trying to dig a hole seems like the same just with redish stripes.

Yup I think noebl1 is right, both are Tetramorium immigrans.
