Only very small, freshly hatched, .5-1.5 mm. grubs.

Well, the T. ambiguus colony is now back up to five queens. I prodded the queen that appeared to be dead and she stood up. I guess she was just kinda “layin’-low”. The workers are starting to darken and they are really gorgeous!

I’m so proud of my Temnothorax ambiguus colony! I tried to give them one fruit fly, but four accidentally fell in! They all freaked out, but each of the four workers tackled the fruit flys and defeated them (the fruit fly’s are like double their size ). Now they have a feast I guess!

Holy wow, I haven’t been active for almost 2 months. WELL ANYWAYS, I’m still here, but the schoolwork definitely hit hard. During that time period, I neglected my ants a lot, but I still have a few colonies going strong: I have my two Camponotus subbarbatus colonies left, as well as my 5 queen Temnothorax ambiguus colony. Also, I have a Pheidole bicarianata queen left, but her eggs just aren’t developing, so I’m basically down to three colonies. The good new though is that they’re my favorite ones, and I can (hopefully) manage three colonies (and btw, a few of the workers died, and most of the brood is gone, but after some feeding and hydration, they seem pretty good again!). Here’s some pictures of the T. ambiguus colony, I’ll try to do regular updates again :

Welp, I think it’s about time to do another update since it’s been quite a while since the last one. Nothing has really changed too much, and still have my 5 queen Temnothorax ambiguus colony as well as my two Camponotus subbarbatus colonies and a sole pheidole queen. Some workers have died off in my temnothorax colony, but both Camponotus colonies seem to be doing pretty well. They are still dormant, but I might wake them up soon! School has really been getting in the way of ant keeping, so this year I’m going to attempt to collect only queens that produce small colonies, like Temnothorax, Colobopsis, or Strumigenys since I find those ants the most enjoyable (Temnothorax specifically).

You're back! My Camponotus subbarbatus are doing good and have started producing again. They have around 18 workers. All of my Colobopsis died out, and I got a Trachymyrmex septentrionalis colony!

When are you supposed to take subbarbatus out? I assumed they were 4 months with the rest of the camponotus.

I hibernate all of my ants for 2.5-3 months. Here, it starts to get warm in February.

Oh, it's still cold up in Ohio, we just got a ton of snow last night. I've only taken a few myrmecines out so far. In March I take out the rest.
