Hello all, I am new here and I am currently worried about my queen she has eaten her eggs and is not laying more. I had a friend tell me it could be genetics and she'll just keep eating her eggs until she eventually dies
anyone got any ideas?

More details would help. What species is she? How did you find her? What is her set up? How often do you check up on her? Details are necessary so the smart people who frequent this forum can give you the best possible answer.

The smart people aye well I hope your right
Species is a myrmecia nigrocincta and she was found by my friend last february and her current set up is a 20mm test tube setup with an outworld and the outworld is 8 inches by 4 inches and has dry red desert sand and I check on her about once a week I am curious because my pilosula is thriving has 6 eggs and was eating regularly but has slowed down for winter.
They tend to eat the first batch of eggs, and you might need to wait till spring for more eggs

If I remember correctly, Myrmecia is a semi-clausteral species. If the queen is not fed during the founding stages, she is bound to eat her eggs as food.
Hit "Like This" if it helped.

Yep they are semi-claustral and she is fed just like my other mymecia pilosula that has 6 eggs atm. the pilosula eats honey has the occasional baby moth or fly for the eggs but rarely as the eggs are still only eggs not larvae yet. I do admit much harder than my full claustral species like my camponotus nigerceps too look after but so worth it
Give her insects every 3 days, and occasionally sugar. Cover the test tube with a dark sleeve, and don't take it off for a month. Only observe her in the outworld during this time, and leave the tube alone. If all goes well, she should have eggs at the end of the month.
When you say sugar do you mean sugarjew honey or fruit??

Sugar can mean a lot of things. Honey or dissolved cane sugar would do the job. Ants do take fruit, but they have varying amounts of success for each species.
To be honest, if your queen takes at least a month to get eggs, you should wait longer before rechecking on her.

Since its winter here she won't lay eggs until spring i believe so she won't lay eggs for quite a while i think. I understand but a lot of people recommend only honey not honeyjew or as you call it desolved honeydew. I will just feed her in the outworld i guess and leave her be. I have a friend that said too take her out of the outworld and just keep her in a test tube for a month since its winter she probably won't want too eat too much. I have been asking around everywhere I can I really want her too lay eggs I am really looking forward too getting workers.
thank you for your insights
