So I found these last summer and they are doing well but I still don't know for sure what they are. I thought they were possibilty Formica fusca but I wasn't sure.
1. Location: Southen England, UK
2. Date of collection: Summer 2017
3. Habitat of collection: Sandy pine forest with ferns
4. Length (from head to gaster): Queen around 7mm and worker around 4-5mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Black
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Its very jumpy and sensitive to light.
Sorry about the photos it was really hard to get a good photo of them because they move around so much. Can retry if necessary.
