How do you clean your Minihearths that have colonies in them? My glass can use a clean, plus they have moldy food remnants in there I would like to get out.

Do you put them in the fridge for a while to slow them down? How long for Formica would you say?

I believe that's how you do it, 10-15mins in the fridge, and then quick clean before they wake up

 

put it inside a fluon lined container as well, just in case

Maybe even clean it while they are in the fridge? Just an idea I have never had a mini-hearth.

You could try it, seem uncomfortable

 

Maybe put it at the bottom rungs so you can sit on the floor to do so

I'd still have it in a container

 

You can clean it over several stints

I would not advise putting your growing colonies in the fridge every time you wanna clean it. Your supposed to prevent them from taking food in or only give them enough they'll finish it.

I stole Serfines idea, I just open the lid and brush out as much as I can a with paint brush. Or you can use the brush to kind of grab stuff by poking it. Takes a little practice. Your never going to be able to sanitize the nest with ants in it. Its mostly about preventing.
