3. Habitat of collection: the lady I pet sit for has a beautiful backyard, gardens, flowers, it was on the side of her above ground pool, clinging about halfway up the side..
4. Length (from head to gaster): <6mm?
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: the body is black but legs are significantly lighter..a light brown/orange-y carmel color? Same on antennae and mandibles..
6. Distinguishing characteristics: has a point on gaster??
7. Distinguishing behavior: n/a, calm, cleaning itself, can't cling wall well, doesn't appreciate a rollie tt lol
8. Nest description: n/a
9. Nuptial flight time and date: n/a

I'd like to see a top view before it is confirmed Crematogaster. It looks like it stands higher than a Crematogaster would. Can you get some pics out of the tube? Top and side views?

This is Lasius claviger. It's a bit small though. What do you mean Chinese ants? All ants have petioles.

One species of Brachyponera has made it to the us and into ny. The asian needle ant? But what are my chances of finding that? and would put me in a weird place harboring an invasive sp. Lmao

^I could see how you thought it was Crematogaster but it doesn't quiiite look like that when I googled them... I just looked up 'ants of new york state' and thought I had an invasive spec don't worry about it
heyyyy it's what it looked closest too, so don't judge me, I'm only familiar with the pavement ant and lasius flavus. Been picking up carpenter ants but they're all majors, still searching for a Camponotous queen and found this instead..I guess they find you. .

How can you tell? Most of the Lasius social parasites look the same to me.

^I think for umbratus a lot of the id'ing is in the head shape, and although they vary in color, the way its lighter on its legs? But maybe Void will chime in.. Id like to know so me key pts for next time Void!! lol
