I got this colony from nurbs last month with 9 workers, a few eggs and about 4-5 large larvae.

 

I liked my modocs so much I wanted another camponotus colony. These ants are entirely black and shiny, with white hairs on their gasters. 

 

I noticed, these ants are much better eaters than my modocs in that they clean the crickets I give down to the shell. They also like to dig into the cotton. 

 

Here is the queen.

I am keeping them in almost the exact same setup I'm keeping my modocs. A grout bottom, 2 test tubes setups, and a vinyl tube running through one side so i can run a heating cable through.

Nurb's certified colonies. Lol. He sell great healty colonies. I love those camps species you have kb. I discover they do not trive were I live. SO I doubt I will ever keep those giant camp species. I'm 100% desert anter now. Good luck with your camps. I think they will trive were you live. Be carefull with desert species. How are your Cockerelli colony doing if you don't mind me asking here in your new journal.

4 large pupae are waiting. I'm hoping some big medians soon!

got a median worker! more brood developing. about 50-60 eggs.

gave these guys my old nest i used for my camponotus modoc since they're now in a THA fortress.

 

looks like this.

 

 

anyways they moved in with some cooling down and dumping in methods. they have a lot of eggs and the brood is developing quicker now.

 

here is a small worker forcing a median worker into the new nest.

 

 

The 10th, 11th and 12 worker were two medians and a major. i think.

 

the major is top left. has a head the almost the size of the queens. the other two I'll say median.

I have seen novomessor cockerelli carry a worker the same way. I though the worker was dead. When he laid her down. i was ready to pick her dead body. She started walking like normal. I wonder why they do this. It funny anyways.

at 30 workers now. once they increase in numbers, maybe 60, ill give them a THA Fortress.

Yeah just go to eBay and type stainless steel mesh. Lots of options.
