I was hiding eggs for the kids on Easter. We have a ceramic bunny sitting in the garden and I was going to hide an egg under it for a cute surprise. When i lifted the bunny I found a ton of ants, pupae, and larvae! I was like oh no let me put this back down, then I saw it.

The Queen was at the top starting to run frantically. I quickly dropped the eggs and ran off to find any container that I could find with a solid lid. The other Adults hiding eggs were like oh no what's wrong what's going on. I ignored them until I found a jar and was told me GF. She had to explain my secret guilty pleasure to the group. . . . . Thanks sweetheart!

Anyways I was able to drop a large portion of the nest and the queen into a Mason jar. I am moving them into an empty Antscanada hybrid V2 nest that I had sitting around. Not sure what they are right now. The queen looks like a couple of other queens I have. My guess is Dorymyrmex insanus because of that. If you wanna try and ID from the poopy photos thanks lol

What an Easter surprise! I'll post pictures of the individuals as soon as they are comfortable.

If you are wanting and ID, you'll have to post in the ID Request section.  Make sure to read the top post in that thread before you make a request, as it shows you how to.  There are a good chunk of members that also refuse to click on external links, so you should also read the post in the top right of the home on how to attach images.

You have got to have better photos if you want an ID. Those jokers (the photos) are ROUGH, my friend, and that is being euphemistic. Edit:. Cool find and I understand your urges! Your story made me laugh.

These ants are in the subfamily Myrmicinae. That rules out Dorymyrmex insanus. I would guess some species of Monomorium, but I need better photos to be able to help you.

some type of monomorium look a lot like minimum or ergatoyna

Yeah I know they are garbage photos they were snapped quickly in the middle of a large get together where I was the host! They have moved into the nest and I got a good look at the workers.
Definately not what I thought at the start. I'll add quality photos later.

I totally understand the worry from following a link but I was unable to figure out how to properly upload the photos so I could share them on here.

Ps this isn't an ID request. I know the proper place to place that. 😁
