I completely agree. Since you mentioned finding them near the road, you might want to feed the queens that haven't layed eggs some protein.

What might have happened is that they were underfed as larvae due to lack of resources since part of their foraging area was a dead, barren road. This might make it harder for them to lay eggs. By feeding them some protein, it partially compensate for this.

Just a thought, may or may not work :).

ok, I will try that, It won't hurt them i don't think

5/18/18

Update:

Still no workers on any colony, but the good new is I bought 4 new Camponotus vicinus (black) queens from nurbs (I highly recommend buying from him). These new queens all have nice and big brood piles and are looking better than my original queens in terms of brood count. One of my queens is up to 3-4 pupae with some larvae and eggs as well. Also in the news, I finally was able to obtain a heating cable, which I set up to keep them at a steady 84-85F instead of my previous 73-74F setup. I hope that the heat change will induce more egg laying and decrease growth time for brood. Also, the queen that I incorrectly identified as "quercicola" is actually vicinus as identified by nurbs.

All eggs, they seem to have 8-12 eggs with one of them only having around 3-5.

6/6/18

One of my vicinus had 2 of her workers eclose on 6/6/3, and another vicinus had a worker eclose this morning. They accepted some sugar water, and tonight I will feed them some protein, probably crickets.

Here are some pictures from when there was one worker:
