While looking for Camponotus/Prenolepis Claustral chambers in a forest in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, I came across a few solo Myrmicinae queens. A couple hundred meters away, I stumbled across a colony with a similar looking queen, and some workers (of which I took a few to help identify). The queens were collected on April 29th. Queens are ~7mm in length, and workers ~4mm. All have a very dark brown coloration with (marginally) lighter legs and a red/tan hue on the gaster's underside in both castes. tasters are smooth, with a somewhat rough texture on the head/thorax. The colony was located under a large stone (which also housed a chamber of a Lasius Claviger colony :wtf: ).

Fairly certain the Antennae have 12 segments

The postpetiole is fairly skinny-smooth and simple

As for Tibial spurs... there are some things you just can't see with a smartphone and a hand-lens  :D

None of those pictures are queens but I can tell you this is Aphaenogaster picea. Queens fly in August

Oh c'mon! You made my heart skip a beat. I thought this was an ID request for a queen caught in Canada today. If they are flying there, they are flying here.

Actually we did see several Prenolepis flights yesterday. Didn't get any though
