Some interesting ants: Camponotus mirabilis, Myrmoteras sp., Mystrium camillae, Thaumatomyrmex atrox.
Not as wacky, but some of my favorites, nonetheless: Atopomyrmex mocquerysi, Crematogaster missouriensis, Meranoplus sp., Terataner elegans, Podomyrma gastralis.

I think these are pretty weird: https://www.alexande...era/Gigantiops/
They might be the ants with the biggest compound eyes. I have ever seen. These must be lethal hunters and hard to catch. I'm guessing they use vision to navigate back home. Instead of smell.

I've always been confused by the weird ant Tetramorium atratulum. The males look especially weird.

My strobe ants are not far off that appearance wise, and they have very good eyesight
Aka Opisthopsis rufithorax.
But it's their movement style that is also interesting. They do short blinking/teleporting type movements

I've seen Gigantiops in the wild before, they spot you from a pretty huge distance away and I remember them being able to jump pretty well.

What is their main food source?

Echinopla sp.
I had never heard of these. I've seen stock images of them but I always assumed they were some sort of velvet ant

After spending 2 hours going through every single Solenopsis specimen on antweb.org I have found the smallest specimen of queen and workers. I couldn't decide which was smaller between 4 workers though. Apart from being very tiny, the only species I found interesting is Solenopsis phoretica.
Queen (parasitic?):
4 different workers:
