Ruthless. I always considered Azteca to be peaceful and nonviolent, guess I was wrong. Apparently, they do this with other ants, as well.

I’ve always recalled Azteca as being highly territorial and aggressive.

I mean... their genus name is Azteca ... Like the Aztecs... Who were RUTHLESS. Quite a fitting name for a genus of ant...

It's not really that special, a lot of ants do that, particularly weaver ants which can even catch small vertebrates like Geckos that way. Even my Camponotus barbaricus use that method to pin down crickets (and my Camponotus generally kinda suck at teamwork).
We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

didn't know weaver ants wait for pray to step on their bored out hole in something then grab on, and pull them in.
