Of course the night I am busy doing other stuff and not blacklighting, I come home to the jackpot. I was already excited to have capture another Pogonomyrmex queen, but when I came home to walk the dogs, out popped what I think is a Camponotus queen. After getting the dogs upstairs, I reinforced myself with a few more test tubes and went back out. Needless to say, I did not have enough tubes, so my Black Friday Tupperware is taking the place of test tubes until Amazon can deliver more. It was easily my most productive night! After culling a few which I may have smashed in my haste, or go dosed with formica acid (smelled like vinegar in the Tupperware), I ended up with 18 Camponotus and 1 Pogonomyrmex queens. An OD thread will follow, probably tomorrow, to verify the new queens identities.

Seems every time I hit the jackpot, the only thing I have on me is a water bottle.  Congrats.

Edit: Also, you keep your garbage can on your counter? Ewww :bad:

:P

Lol we have to put it up there when we leave or my dog decides to try to eat it, but don't worry it's always empty up there. I was in such a rush to go out and get the queens that I didn't bother to take it down :D.

Where do you usually setup a black light trap?
Also how does it look like?

I've never tried it before, so I kinda need some ideas. :D

But nicely done! What a Jackpot!

I've been setting it up just in my yard trying to draw in the specific species that I knew was around. Lots of people buy power inverters for there car so they can use the blacklight out in the field. Here is a link to how I set mine up, it's a pretty typical and easy way of doing it. If you are doing it from a vehicle, you can just drape the sheet over the vehicle instead of a clothes line.

The title of this thread would make a great title to a short story or novel. Doesn't even have to relate to ants. Could be any genre. Horror, drama, epic scifi, even trashy romance.

The tubes came in and got them all put away! Coincidentally we also got new keyboards at work that came in large boxes with black foam padding, which I am now keeping the queens in. 15-16 per layer, the picture is showing the second layer. I found 2 dead queens so I am at 28 total caught since Sunday.
