I just caught a Crematogastor sp. queen. Tons more were crawling around my driveway and in our yard. (About 3 or 4). I'm not quite sure what species it is yet. The only ones in my area are Crematogastor Lineolata and Cerasi. I hope it is Cerasi as they are more commonly kept and there is more information on them. Please tell me whether or not there is a noticeable difference between the too! Wish me good luck!

I think it could be C. Lineolata because based on pictures of queens they generally have larger heads than C. Cerasi and mine has a large head. Also she is being kept in a test tube.

Here is an update on the queen. She seems to be making a nesting chamber/tunnel in the cotton blocking the water reservoir. She was in a position that made her look dead but she was probably resting as Crematogastor sp. are nocturnal.

You should provide pictures or videos, it makes a journal way more entertaining. A picture can describe way more than what you will be able to with just text.

She still has no brood. It may be that she is stressed or infertile. I won't update in possibly another couple weeks.

From what I've read/in my limited experience, Crematogaster often wait until after hibernation to lay eggs. I wouldn't worry about things like fertility for a while.

There are a few journals here from people who caught Crematogaster queens in mid July (or earlier) that had nanitics before hibernation. Queens that flew mid August or later, let alone as far North as Michigan? I'm not going to say it's impossible, as I'm no expert, but a cursory glance isn't showing any examples of that happening. Kind of disappointing to hear, I imagine, but they're worth the wait.
