As said in my location, I live very close to San Jose. I have yet to see a wild colony of
Pogonomyrmex (I might have seen one a while back, but that was before I was into ants (years ago), I checked the same spot and there was no sign of them
). Apparently, there are two species of
Pogonomyrmex in my area,
Pogonomyrmex Subdentatus, and
Pogonomyrmex Brevispinosus. Since the former seems to be the most common in NorCal, I'll be targeting spots with those. I do know of a few spots in the East Bay Area, but since I live over an hour away from those places, it would be nice to find a spot closer to me. I have looked in various parks and trails, with no luck in finding. If anyone here has any advice on:
- Places near San Jose where Pogonomyrmex are present
- Tips on finding Pogonomyrmex
- Preferred habitat
- What to look for to find nests
- Any tips in general on how to locate them
Please comment. Thanks for any help!
