I have queens and colonies I could sell, but I am in NOVA. Do you ever come up this way? I could possibly look in to how to ship ants. The species I have to sell are Crematogaster cf lineolata and Camponotus chromaiodes (currently founding these) .

Try posting a photo of your queen in the Ant ID section to see what it is.

Any queen activity, fellas?

I checked last night, but came up empty. I'm thinking the rain and heat later in the week could trigger flights.

More termite flights have taken place this morning, if you're interested in those.

I had high hopes for this weekend, but it turned out to be a bust for me. We had a bunch of rain, but night time temps plummeted rapidly. Do you guys think there are good chances for Camponotus this week if it warms up? Still hoping to find the elusive castaneus...

Birding, on the other hand was incredible. Tons of colorful migrants passing through VA.

I apparently really suck at this! no queens again. I think I'm looking in the right places. I mean I see ants of the same species as I'm looking for just not queens except for the one C. pennsylvanicus.

How often do y'all go out and get skunked?

I couldn't find any queens last night. I saw a two males late in the afternoon(about 7:00 Pm), but no queens at night. It's raining right now, but the temperature has plummeted. Maybe next week.

Yeah, it was too cool last night in the DMV. I get skunked like 95% of the time. It's like finding a little 1/4 inch unicorn in my opinion.

Some of the kids on here seem to find queens like I find bills, though. Not sure how they do it.

I guess my problem is I went out once and caught a queen. It gave me a false sense of easiness.

So my two year old pointed out a big orange queen to my wife at the park. Obviously she had no interest in catching it, and I was home mowing the lawn. I’m like, whaaaaaa?!?!

Just found a winged Tetramorium queen. That strikes me as somewhat early.
