I think I'm further north than most others posting here, but I found a Prenelopis queen on Sunday. I've also seen ten or more queens of some unidentified Lasius parasite.

Cool, glad to hear that Prenolepis are still flying, I had nearly given up on finding a queen this year. I've also found a Lasius parasite queen, they must be coming out of hibernation around this time so I be on the lookout for more queens seeing as raising a parasite queen is one of my 2019 goals.

They(Prenolepis imparis) fly mostly in April up here in Northern Va.


Keeps:

1:Pogonomymex occidentalis

4: Tetramorium immigrans

2 Reticulitermes flavipes

That's what I'm doing. I've already caught 6 winged queens and I'm going to go out after dark to catch some more.

Also, there are Camponotus pennsylvanicus and C. castaneus(I think I saw a queen in flight) as well.

Wow, it’s only 60 in Alexandria. I didn’t see anything flying today. How warm did you guys get? It’s supposed to get to 81 tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get out tomorrow night.

Allow me to correct myself, it wasn't C.caryae, C.discolor is what I meant. Not sure why I got the two mixed up.

We hit 80 today, and I caught two C. novaboracencis queens. A third one flew away. Both still had wings, so I’m not sure if they mated. I’m planning to check a nature trail after Holy Week services tonight, too.

I found two more dealate queens. Ironically, the two nature trails I went to yielded nothing, but I found four in my native plant habitat garden.

I’ll post some photos soon. I realized the queens are C. Chromaioides though! It’s a revelation to me that most of the red and black ants I’ve been seeing aren’t novaeboracencis at all.
I took a photo of a male nectaring on my wild geranium today, which I thought was very interesting.

Hello everyone, I'm looking to purchace a queen ant. Any available around Norfolk, or Virginia Beach? Or anywhere in Virginia? I've had no luck finding any. Thank you!
