I found what I believe is a Colobopsis queen at my spooky blacklight last night. I let her go on the dead, hollow stems of my elderberry bush. Really cool to see, but I don’t want to keep challenging species.

Colobopsis aren't challenging. They're just different. Really easy to keep (basically the same as Camponotus if you have small tubes).

I’ll take your word for it. I don’t even really care for keeping Camponotus, to be honest.

Ah. Colobopsis isn't for you then. They grow at like half the speed, even with multiple queens...

Here are some photos of the queen. She was spazzing out, big time. Any idea what species, Ant_Dude?

Looks like C. obliqua. Nice find! In my experience those actually grow about as fast as Camponotus.

Just found four more of these. Are they polygynous?

I found about eight of them on my set up and a Brachymyrmex, I believe.

I would keep the Colobopsis in pairs of 2 or 4, if I were you.

I should’ve kept them, but I’m running low on test tubes and my DW went psycho on me again.

Wow, Colobopsis must be super abundant in my area because last night I caught 26 queens! There were at least tens more that I didn't catch. I kept al the queens in a bag until some dropped their wings, then I put those(3) in a tube together and released the rest.

Were you the one who wanted my Stigmatomma Queen?? If so, I'm willing to trade for some Colobopsis queens!!

I've only ever seen Colobopsis at my school.  :( Also the raptiformica in my yard are finally stealing the brood.

In my area there has been a Pheidole sp. flight for about 5 days straight and now I’m seeing some weird looking ants that look like Formica and carpenter ants combined. Super small and they have red legs and black body with unusual head.

I agree with Colobopsis. Did you collect more Pheidole?
