Hello Everybody!

 

 Just a newly aspiring future ant-keeper here in Toronto, Ontario. Got into starting this hobby after stumbling across AntsCanada videos on YouTube. I've always been fascinated by ant colonies and other swarm/hive insects in nature and wanted one of those stand-up ant farms as a kid.  However, after watching the videos, reading your journals, and researching some species, I believe this is something I can definitely handle.

 

 Ideally, I'm looking to start my antkeeping journey with some carpenter ants which I've read are pretty common around my area and very easy to start with. Looking to catch a couple of queens and see how they turn out. 

 

 Once I start, I plan on keeping my own journal and updating every month or two at first with the intent on maintaining the claustral environment so the queens can start laying. I will always appreciate feedback so please do not hesitate to give me some tips!

Looking forward to getting to know you all and seeing some interesting colonies!

Can never have too many.

 

By the way, when putting your location on the Member Map (which I recommend everyone do), be as precise as you can when entering an address. I noticed that when you just put a location like "Ottawa, Ontario, Canada" and then someone else does the same. It will only list the last person who used that as a location. But when you enter an entire address, it will create a new dot for that specific location so there are no overlaps.

Yep, we've had a recent influx of Canadians, specifically Ontarian ones, well good luck finding those Camponotus I hope to find some as well this season.
