Thinking about an idea thanks to meeting Nurbs & Drew that could help other people out. Popped into my head randomly, as always.

 

Using Vial snap/pop caps + bullet "sash" bandolier that holds bullets, rambo style.

 

Instead of bullets, can use these snap top vials to have easy access to them when anting. Once queen is caught put it into your bag, etc. The one I found on ebay holds 65 bullets, pictured below.

I have seen a similar style used by UC Santa Barbara students to hold bees they were collecting. Obviously the containers were  bit larger but the system worked great.

I like it! Great idea, I'll definitely look into making one of these. It solves the problem of carrying around random containers in your pocket, hand, etc. The only concerning part about it is that some Queens don't like plastic, and some, like A. Versicolor, will die when in contact. Don't know if this is the same kind though.

Yeah, I feel same way, hate stuff bouncing around in my pockets and HATED having to get my test tubes from my backpack/pocket which were glass btw, so had to be SUPER careful. Having 65 containers out of the way, but ready to go should be useful.

Agreed. I was especially scared that if I tripped and the tubes were in my pocket, they would shatter and dig into my legs. This solves that problem. I'm going to hopefully buy these and test it out, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, I updated list with 2 more sizes. Looking forward to your review! Hopefully 65 tubes is enough lol.

Not a fashion statement . Besides, they are obviously plastic tubes and not shiny bullets. Probably get funny looks tho.

love th3 idea. worst case scenario. a cop shoots you at night thinking you were heavily arm. in a desert with a shovel. at 1am. still great ideas. you can lose a queen getting a test tube from your backpack.

Again, shiny, bronze/metallic color is different that a clear plastic color. They would ask what it is, and upon showing them, they should leave you alone.  Also, you only find clowns in the desert, not cops.

If I were that afraid, I would wear it under a light jacket or under my shirt or something. Honestly though, if you are out anting, chances are you are far from where the cops would try ot do anything to you.
