Currently for sale is a single yearling (from last years queens) P. badius colony numbering at 100+ workers. They’ve recently exited dormancy and have many freshly laid eggs at the moment. They come in a large Kritter Keeper. Pick up within Florida only. May have more colonies available soon.

$120

Interesting. Didn’t know they had a dormant period. Learned something new. Good luck with your sale.

In the wild, it normally begins around the end of November and lasts till March/April. Colonies close up their nests above ground but are still semi-active below. In captivity they do well following the same schedule and by simply removing all heat sources and, if possible, simulating a natural photoperiod.

I stupidly just assumed that most Florida species were active year round. Including during the Florida “winter.”
