Orectognathus spp, next favorite would be Camponotus spp. I understand that you can't list every species, but where the heck is Temnothorax, Pogonomyrmex, Monomorium, Veromessor, this isn't to criticize but just to point out some Genus's that have many species you may have missed when posting please add these. Sorry if I sound so harsh, I just want to add these. :good2:

 

EDIT: Crematogaster was already on the list.

That's a difficult question. It's also hard to make this a poll because of the sheer number of genera.

Worldwide, it might be Azteca or Oceophylla or Odontomachus or Atta or Polyergus or one of a number of other genera.

If I limit myself to ants within my state, then there's Atta, Cephalotes, Leptogenys elongata, Labidus, Odontomachus, various Pheidole, Pseudomyrmex along with a host of other interesting ants.

Basically, I can't pick one. Every genus of ants is fascinating in its own ways. Even horribly invasive ants like Solenopsis invicta or Linepithema humile are interesting too. The way that they are able to take advantage of disturbances to spread very fast is really neat.

What's wrong with clicking Solenopsis? Sure it has harmful species like S. invicta, but other members of this genus such as S. molesta or S. fugax are perfectly fine. If this was a species list, then choosing S. invicta would be wrong, but this thread is referring to the whole genus.

Even the invasives can be cool. I love Solenopsis geminata, and they are considered to be invasive.
