since they're mainly in AUS to my understanding the chances are probably slim. take a look at britishants.com and check there often as their stock can contain some fairly tropical and unique ants

well i believe AUS is a lot like the USA when it comes to shipping ants outside of the country so honestly youre probably not going to find anything unless its on the ant black market

Is that new that they don't ship to Europe? In the past, some keepers in Europe received ants from them.

i think its been that way from the beginning as the question of where they ship ants to is in their FAQ.

Pretty good bet that if Aussie ants are showing up on lists outside of that country they are smuggled.

If someone says in a forum he received ants from gamergate.com.au I highly doubt that, since they have a license to collect them. Maybe now they are only allowed to ship them to Australia but in the past, I heard from several people in Germany who received Australien ants from them.

In their original news they say:

Gamergate, through one of its subsidiary companies, has been granted a Wildlife Trade Operation (WTO) from the Department of the Environment and Energy (DEE) that grants it permission to export native Australian ants, worldwide.

As you can see they at least in 2016 they had permission to export Australian ants worldwide.

With as difficult as it is for legitimate researchers to collect and export research material I would not be surprised if these supposed permits came with a fairly high bribe price.

Hi all,

As the owner of Gamergate I can confirm that we are licensed to export ants outside of Australia, and do so regularly.

We are heavily regulated by the Australian Government and our collecting techniques and sustainability methods are very strictly controlled.

I hope that has cleared things up :)

Brendon.
