So, I'm not broke, but I am cheap. If I can save a buck I will do so. Also, since it doesn't really matter how you start the colony, I figured these weren't bad options. I didn't have any test tubes so I was just using whatever to put all these newly caught queens in. They are ugly, but they work. I used pill bottles, sand tubes, stackable towers and just tons of random stuff.

Looks good although I was able to get I think 100 test tubes for about $14 shipped if you're interested. I'm forever on a tight budget haha

haha that's true, I don't have many of the things you used lying around to recycle though so I'd have to buy something anyway. I'm thinking of using the bead storage containers and grout to make some starter nests for when my colonies are ready.

Those stackable bead containers are a godsend for ant-keeping, I am learning.

How do they breathe and get water/food?  I like the round containers besides that :D

I know this is dead TC, but I was looking at this and those extra long test tubes may actually be of use. You can store more ants in there, and you have more space for them to live in and be able to feed them easier.

Those stackable containers are great. I use stainless steel mesh instead of cotton for hydration, and also drill 1mm holes on the sides and top for ventilation.
