Hello all,

 

Just started in the hobby around October 2016, I have a few ants in different stages of colony founding.

 

 

Around Nov 2016 I managed to collected around 12 Aphaenogaster longiceps queens. I have keep all but one and she is doing great.

 

 

Also have 3 Iriridomyrmex purpureus queens though still no nanitics

 

 

 

Also recently caught a Camponotus consobrinus - she has one leg missing and still has not laid any eggs.

 

 

 

Do have Iridomyrmex bicknelli with around 12 nanitics but not photos as of yet.

 

Will try and keep this thread updated along the way.

Here are my Aphaenogaster longiceps feeding on a mealworm for the first time

The queen wasn't going to let go.

It is surprising that we've fed them twice and both times the queen leaves the test tube to have a feed.

My ants do this too. When they feel safe, I think they believe the outworld counts as their nest as well.

Good collection!  I started around the same time as you and just have one formica queen

I do have a few others with no ID and still without workers. Will post some photos once there is an update

Two out of three of my Iridomyrmex purpureus queens had nanitics. Couldn't get any good photos yet as they are still in 'ghost form' and haven't developed their permanent colouring.

 

Hopefully should be able to get something over the next few days.

Also I hadn't looked at my Myrmecia piliventris queen in weeks so I thought I would have a tiny peak - great news is she has laid 3 eggs. Was getting a bit worried as when she moved in to her new Inception chamber she would be out running around the outworld every day - climbing rocks and having some food  but for the last few weeks she hadn't come out of the nest. Since I didn't want to disturb her, I wasn't sure if she had died or was just not wanting to come out. Looks like she was getting ready to lay eggs.

 

I have been told they are super hard to look after/raise so I will place in in a really quiet place that receives a bit of sunshine and only drop in some food every so often.

The Iridomyrmex purpureus girls are doing really well - just over the last week they have doubled in numbers!

 

Had a really good day hunting last tuesday - as consobrinus were going nuts in my area - managed to get 4 new queens

 

 

In the meantime my 5 legged Camp. consobrinus has two tiny eggs!

Holy dooly! Those ants are toeier than a roman sandal, I betta wack on some pluggas and go and check me local nests.

My Aphaenogaster finally decided to move in to my Ant Topia mini nest

Will try and get some proper pictures with them wandering around the large outworld.
