Is a sponge ok for moisture?

So iam making a homemade plasic nest from a screw box and i was wondering if a normal sponge would be ok for moisture and for ants to maybe even drink from it is this ok I've washed the sponge with some water and let it dry I've ordered a messor barbarus colony

Yes. Sponges have been used for a long time. Just make sure it isn't scented or anything.

Yeah, I used to build alit of nests like this. Cotton works fine as well. Just be careful cause in some containers they can squeeze into the slots. You can see they got into one hydration spot in my nest.
