Formica subsericea for me I guess. By the way, what prompted you to ask this question? Just curious.

I think Formic subsceria is better. (because that's a species I REALLY want... so I'm a little biased). Lasius neoniger is cool and everything, but I love the energy of the Formica genus.
Aphaenogaster cf. rudis
Tetramorium immigrans
Tapinoma sessile
Formica subsericea
Pheidole sp.
Camponotus nearcticus
I've never kept Lasius neoniger, so I don't know much about how they are to keep as pets. I have, however, kept Formica subsericea, and would highly recommend them.
They will accept lots of types of food, are high energy, are large enough that they are easy to see, and in my experience, each worker has her own personality.
Also, why not keep both? They are both an extremely easy species to keep.
