I found a tetranorium Queen, which is really weird since their nuptial flights are still some ways off...

We think they flew yesterday, and dug up ones in founding chambers. Also we caught some foraging queens.

Yeah my friend, YsTheAnt, caught a tetramorium queen earlier in the year, but she was infertile:(

-1x Parasitic Formica Sp. Colony

-1x Pogonomymrex Californicus Colony

-1x Camponotus Hyatti Colony

Tetramorium here don't abide by the general nuptial flight schedules

Yeah I think so. Although I've never actually seen a nuptial flight. I did catch a founding colony and one fertile queen. (2 of my friends found infertile ones though).

It's slightly disconcerting how there are tetramoriums everywhere.

Man, you south bay people really catch queens so easily. It's so hard up here for Sericultivist and me.

Nah. I only ever find tetramoriums. Plus, I'm sort of awful at catching queens...

There aren't any camponotus species near me, so that's pretty much all I find.

Well, I'm close enough to both places haha.

Edit: I need to stop eating my words and get my facts right.

It's my secret spot in the Santa Cruz mountains :3. It's kinda far from where most of you guys are, so it won't be worth much to you anyways lol. I might show people if we have an anting meeting or something, but honestly it's so small, it might be a bust if we all go. I do know that there are Pogonomyrmex at many other places though, only reason I want to keep that one secret is because it's so small, that if more people ant there it won't exist for long. However, I do know black diamond mines had Pogonomyrmex as well. If I find more locations with confirmed pogonomyrmex, I'll be sure to post most, if not all here :).

I'm pretty sure you'll find Pogonomyrmex almost anywhere in the South Bay where there are open hills with lots of grass that are relatively undisturbed, as long as it is in a warm enough area. There are also probably isolated populations in the mountains.

Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Pogonomyrmex and I'd much rather find things like Stigmatomma and Hypoponera, but it's hard enough finding anything other than Linepithema here in San Francisco.

As many as possible lol. But I really want to catch non-myrmentoma Camponotus species and Formica species.

Haha. What I'm looking for is a teacher :\. I just really need someone to follow around and learn from, because I'm pretty sure I'm bad at this.

(Does that sound like stalking? oops)

Really hyped for a time we can all meet up :P

I know a good place for massive camponotus in San Jose. It also has V. Andrei, maybe we can work something out for next weekend.
