The place is also in a old quicksilver mining town with multiple cemataries so its kinda haunted so go at night if you brave enough.

I'm aware that they already flew so I'm asking more specifically on for next season.
Seen some Leos in the black diamond mines tonight.

Have the intense rain this year affected the numptials?
Somewhat, the Preno flights this year were delayed until March. The temperature's also been pretty low compared to last year, especially in a month such as April. It's supposed to be high 60s to low 70s this week, so hopefully we'll have some flights.

Hi all - I am here in Petaluma and hoping to catch some queens, even though it might be a bit late in the season to start. If anyone has any tips or guides, especially about when to hunt I 'd really appreciate it.
I'm also wondering if the blacklight technique is effective for our local conditions/species, since that seems like it would work well in my location (large, open, pretty dark area).
thanks!!!

It'll get pretty hot this week, but I'm not sure what you could find. Blacklights work best for Crematogaster and Pheidole if you want fertile queens, and I've had success finding Hypoponera on them last May and June when it got over 85. Species like Camponotus fly at night, but only the males come to blacklights I believe. A foresty area would be a good spot for setting the light.
On another note, it rains next Tuesday and Thursday in the Bay with temps going up to 71 for the next two days. Would that be an ideal flight condition for Camponotus and Liometopum queens?
