I've found queens on cars, but none of them were fertile

Aphaenogaster occidentalis is flying
Those are the ones with workers that look like tetramorium, but are a bit larger right? And the queens are kind of smaller than tetramorium and their abdomens are orangey underneath. I can't remember if the ants I am thinking of were called Aphaenogaster occidentalis or not.

It seems to be too early for apheanogaster to be flying. Might just be tetramorium.

We might go to Monterey to see the aquarium later in summer. Do you think that I would find at least one T. immigrans queen while there for a couple days? Even in August?
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Hi All! Any leads on finding a Leaf Cutter queen around the SF Bay Area? Or know of anyone we can visit who has one? Thanks!

There are no leaf cutter species around the Bay Area. But Drew has some down in Socal.

Whereabouts is good for looking for P. imparis queens? I know they have outposts near Stanford but any particular reasonably accessible area in South Bay?
Otherwise I'll just hit one of you up for a queen in a tube sometime.

in that case....anyone selling Novomessor Cockerelli in the bay area?
also are pogonomyrmex barbatus found around here? They seem like they might be fun too....basically just looking for a very large, active, diurnal harvester ant that doesnt hibernate.
No, we don't have P. barbatus. Only in Florida.

Only attines we have near us are cyphomyrmex wheeleri, looking to get some queens this summer. If you want leafcutters you'll have to ask people in Socal.

No, aphaenogaster are more like leggy pheidole, don't look like tetras at all. Queens are around the same size as workers, slightly larger and bulkier. Mostly brown, no orange I can remember. I honestly wouldn't recommend them to beginners, their diet is quite demanding.

Nvm, we may have P. barbatus, but the likelihood is slim. I thought you meant P. badius.
