Yes, they can definitely die from vinegar or alcohol.

Found 3 vicinus, 2 hyatti, and 1 maritimus queen in Mission Springs, Scott’s Valley, walking around the pavement.

My dog found a vicinus queen for me today, again in my house.

Most myrmentomas and other spring flying Camponotus have probably flown by now.

You still might be able to find some stragglers during some heatwaves.

Damn isn't it a bit early for them to fly right now?

No formica near me flew, I think they will have major flights in a few weeks.

Saw formica flying today

Damn isn't it a bit early for them to fly right now?

I saw 2 queens near a hair salon around the Cupertino Home Depot.

One crawled onto my hand, but then she flew away :(

I didn't see any other ones so it's possible it's too early.

Was it Formica Pacifica?

Might have been some early fliers, but I have never seen formica near that area. They will have big flights in a few weeks when it starts getting into the 90's so keep an eye out!

I've trying to take time off to go on some walks to look for queens, but I haven't had much spare time so I haven't been successful yet. Anyways, I woke up this morning, booted up my computer, went to put on my headphones and found this:

Spoiler

I'm absolutely ecstatic. I'm in Aptos (south of Santa Cruz), but I haven't seen any flights in the past week. We have been having rain here all day.
Any suggestions for ID? My phone was having a hard time taking a closer picture, but it's definitely some type of carpenter queen. She has a red middle section so I'm thinking C. Hyatti?

No, but if you traveled to a nearby mountain you could possibly find a queen during a nuptial flight.

Myrmentoma may have new flights soon. I captured a bit of a colony back when they flew first. Many of the larvae I caught ended up developing into queen alates a week ago, so I think there's a chance they will fly once it gets a bit warmer.

I also heard from someone that Tetra have had a few large flights in California. Anyone see anything lately?

Some people have been reporting tons of them on their cars in yards. Its a bit early though to find an actual mated queen and not hot enough. And I have found a few squished tetramorium queens on streets and they all had wings as a sign that its too early for a real flight.
