Looks pretty neat. How large is it exactly?

 

I suggest you put a smooth ridge either with acrylic or some applicable clear sealant/paint on the side of the outworld instead of the 3d printed surface to add an insect barrier. Ants can probably climb a rigid print much easier than a clear paint coating or acrylic. Also, you should check out dspdrew's little silicone plugs and maybe do something like that instead of printed plugs because silicone really closes the printed gap better.

Can't the ants escape if there's no glass (3-D print isn't exactly smooth)? Other than that, looks good!

I bought a similar design, there is no gap/crack between the glass and nests. It sits quite flush honestly.

I mean on the sides of the outworld. Once a colony gets big, it will be impossible to open the outworld without escapes.

It Is approximately 150 mm x 150 mm -The 3D printed plug/blocking plate is very tight and has gone through extensive testing to make sure no ants will escape but thank you for the suggestion

From product testing ants generally do not escape these modules due to the larger height than most, this allows the keeper to stop escapes before they happen. As well as this, we sell Anti-Escape oil that is designed for this specific purpose on our modules.
