Seems he is releasing invasive species into wild and needs to be reported.

Hold your pitchforks for a moment. The Phillipines have several native Monomorium species and with Mikey's ID skills I wouldn't bet that these are actually Monomorium pharaonis (also I'm pretty sure he never actually IDed them at all and just called them Pharao ants because they were a Monomorium species).
Can anyone who's experienced at IDing ants watch the videos and ID the ants in question first please? (Batspiderfish?)

(f) collecting, hunting or possessing wildlife, their by-products and derivatives;

Well, if taken by the word this alone would mean that antkeeping (and any pet-keeping aside from dedicated house pets like cats/dogs and domestic animals like pigs or chicken) would be illegal in it's entirety.

Or at least make it so in the Philippines.

Obviously.

Also, aren't most exotic pets bred in captivity now?

For many pets this is true, but not for all of them (see the Hawaiian pet-fishing affair).

I was infuriated when I saw this. His demographic is chidren now, and he knows this. He just made an impression on thousands of young antkeepers, or soon to be antkeepers that it's okay to do this.

This is my biggest issue with him.

Not to mention that most of his viewers love fire ants. They're going to start their antkeeping adventure with the infamous and readily avalible Solenopsis geminata or invicta. They will obviously find them way to difficult to keep, and release them, thus further dipping their local environment into the quarantine zone.

I was attacked by the AC kiddie fan base for my comment. :o

How irresponsible. You should, not release your infected ants or any other captive ants back into the wild. It is ecologically irresponsible. So you didn't do the right thing at all.

They tried so hard, at least they tried to throw a theory out. (y) Here are the comments.

This kid has no idea.

Those ants have been there from before you walked this Earth. The mites will infect the other invasive ants though and help curb their numbers.

Not irresponsible. Nature will do its thing and these ants are nomadic and being thrown in the garbage dump will help decompose the trash too. They were infected by mites but the mites were harmless and would latch off. Things like these would also help that certain species of ants to evolve and become immune to future invasion.
photo.jpg
Why would the mites curve their numbers? As stated in the video these mites are ant 'friends'. They eat fungus and break down waste. If anything they will be beneficial at worst and at best a non-factor in invasive ant populations.

No idea, but they tried...

T.C. Insects you never the right thing at all maybe your immature

Yeah, ok kid! Thanks, uh... for that wonderful input. Lean how to spell.

You realize that those Pharaoh ants came from an already present supercolony of Pharaoh ants living nearby as he mentioned in one of his videos.

Mhm, yeah, you right! Jeez, what the heck was I thinking.

You are dumb. It's easier to get rid of them in the wild

The people upset about mikey releasing an invasive species need to understand that although pharoh ants are not from the Philippines, they are a species that has been living there for over a century brought by settlers and through trade. The pharoh ants are more likely to live where humans live where they can scavenge our leftovers and the dump is oddly enough a perfect place for them. Here in Hawaii the mangoose is an invasive species but some people have them as pets and releases them back all the time. Because the damage that they have caused to the island has pretty much maxed out. The tomb raiders were wild to begin with and euthinizing just that small part of the colony is kinda pointless. Mikey I think you did the right thing <3 ANT LOVE FOREVER!!!

I'm going to top both of yours. This is what Ants Galore has been dealing with after he suggested to Mikey to add a disclaimer to not release invasive species on his videos, as well as asking him to stop dodging the word "invasive":

"Why does everybody hate fire ants its not like its their fault they invaded its the fault of humans careless behaviour that let them spread all the ants did is do anything to survive and as for portraying them as good WHY NOT! They are one of the coolest ants to keep and if you are careful enough they can't be any risk besides who is to say that keeping any other ant that's not form ur area can't cause as much damage if they invade nobody can say that there is no risk so idk why fire ants are hated so much like wtf... ?!?!" - nikola_balevic on Instagram

And yes, I did have to type all of that out beause my computer could not understand how to import pictures from a phone today. Now if you excuse me I'm going to buy a punching bag and put a picture of my computer on it.

Even if he was wrong, he thought they were Pharoh Ants (which he knows are invasive), and he released them.

Nope, not at all. Drew should add required background AC Fanboy checks to the site when people sign up.
