What happens if you were to create a mixture? Pour Material A down so its 0.5" deep.. and then pour material B on top of that.

That's cool but definitely not designed for small scale jobs.
I want to make this exact set up. However I remember reading that the ceramic could no longer be found?

The ceramic is an unglazed tile, many places sell it, but the buyer he was buying it from stopped selling I'm pretty sure. Also I'm pretty sure the ring is 3D printed. I would not suggest trying to replicate the setup. I have tried before to replicate a setup, and it is not as easy or cheap as you might think. Drew sells this setup and you can buy from him. If you try to replicate it you will probably spend more money than it would cost to buy from drew and it will be a bit sloppier.

So I collected some light beige colored sand from another part of the desert while out anting this summer, to see if it would behave similar to the Glamis sand. separated the silt and clay and I fired it at 2300 degrees F. Unlike the Glamis silt/clay mixture, it melted into a blob of glass just like all the others. There really is something unique about the composition of that sand.
At first I was like... hmm.. that's a lot of boxes. Then I saw the stuff in the background behind the chair...
Here's some pics of my Clone-shack
Still have to pour resin and sand
Draft .3mm print, broke the top piece and it's not perfect. I found the 3D printed spacers that drew previously used has issues so I went the resin+jig route.
Thank you Drew for the open project tutorials and research.
