I need info on care. I've had them since August of 2016 and they just have eleven workers.
Most Camponotus species are very slow growing, especially during the first few years of the Colony.
Thanks, I knew they were slow, but not this slow!

Have a C. Modoc colony that was caught this year and has over 200 workers. Majors are huge!
Heat and food will make them grow like crazy.
Ok, yeah I was thinking about heating them, and all other colonies next year.

Heat makes a huge difference. I heat all my colonies. The ones I don't due to lack of space on the heating cable take forever to grow.
Thanks! I have a heat mat...... I will try that this come spring!

That one you purchased was an exception to the rule for sure. Some queens are just better egg poopers than others. I heat mine as well, and avg is 15-30 workers for the first year for C. modoc.
For example, majority of my C. sansabeanus averaged 15-30 workers this season. And have a few that are still at 5 workers. And then I have one now that is near 80 workers. A lot of it just depends on the "quality of the queen".

holy crap! yeah you got a nice queen from nurbs! i have about 25 workers chilling in the fridge.
mind sharing a pic of your setup? also what kind of heat and how hot do you keep? and what do you feed!? perhaps if i can mimic your conditions i too can see an explosion in growth.

You gave me the lucky one! She won't stop laying eggs. Worker count is over 200 and she is still laying eggs. I counted over 70 eggs the other day. Just took them off the heating cable and ill hibernate them soon.

I'll try and get a good pic of the setup and post it.

You're doing fine. He just got one of those exceptional queens that just won't stop popping out eggs.

One Queen to rule them all!
Yeah I just got really luck! My other C. Laevigatus only has around 35 workers and she hasn't laid eggs in months.
