Hi, antsy. Your Pogonomyrmex queen might be big, but I don't think she's at 1 inch! Maybe re-measure.

She has three hyperactive workers but when I put them in a new formicarium a couple days ago they didn’t dig they just stayed with a cotton ball

Oh nice, quite a small colony! Did you found them yourself or dig them up from outside? Just wondering because most prefer to keep smaller and younger colonies in a test tube setup before movie to a formicarium. But if you dug up the colony they may already be used to soil and prefer that over a test tube.

Aren’t harvester ants suppose to be active diggers? I got mine out of the test tube and put them in a formicarium, but all they do is hang around the cotton ball that came in the test tube. Is there anything wrong, they aren’t digging. Pogonomyremex Occidentalis: kept at 72*F in about 40% moisture soil. Idk wats up please HELP

Did you get them from someone? If you got them from someone/someplace and the ant species is not native to where you live then yes it will be a problem. Only if they escape really because it can be very harmful to the environment but if not then it won't be, as long as you are not caught as well because it is also illegal in some places and you can be criminally charged.

That's great that they're digging now. They must've just needed some food so they could nest knowing there are food sources nearby.
