Hi everyone, Max here. Brand new to ant keeping, and wondering if I should wait until the nuptial flights here in spring, or buy a young colony online. Thoughts?

I'm looking for a species that is local to me, and doesn't have too much danger attached to it (Like stinging, venom, smelly, talented acrobats, etc.)

Welcome to formiculture Max. Might I ask where you are located? You can wait until flights in the spring, but to buy a colony online, you cannot do so if your in the U.S. You have to catch your own or find someone in your state due to the fact shipping over state lines is illegal. If the online seller was in your state then that would be fine. Most people don't have an issue finding sellers in their state.

I'm in The United States, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, which is on the east coast. I did some research, and unfortunately, turns out that on the AntsCanada website, there are no sellers in my state. Might you have another website where I'd be able to find sellers in Virginia?

( You edited the title right? I'm not sure if I am going crazy or if it said Virginia in it prior.)

And I'm afraid not. Virginia is a tough one. This member, antteen804 lives in Virginia. He hasn't been on in a while, but you could send him a private message and see if he replies.

So, which do you think will take longer, the coming of Spring or the answering of an inactive member?
